Perfect for any occasion, these decadent bars are easy to make and are sure to satisfy your sweet cravings. With just a few simple ingredients and minimal prep time, Turtle Bars deliver the perfect balance of crunch and indulgence in every bite.

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • Crust:

    • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • ½ cup butter, softened
  • Turtle Layer:

    • ⅔ cup butter
    • ½ cup brown sugar
    • 1 cup pecan halves
  • Chocolate Topping:

    • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Instructions

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Make the Crust: Combine flour, brown sugar, and softened butter in a large mixing bowl. Beat at medium speed for 2-3 minutes until the mixture forms fine crumbs. Press evenly into the bottom of an ungreased 13x9-inch baking pan.
  3. Prepare the Turtle Layer: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt ⅔ cup butter with ½ cup brown sugar. Stir constantly until it bubbles, then cook for 30-60 seconds. Remove from heat.
  4. Assemble the Layers: Spread pecan halves evenly over the crust. Pour the hot butter and brown sugar mixture over the pecans.
  5. Bake: Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the surface is bubbly.
  6. Add the Chocolate Topping: After baking, remove the bars from the oven and immediately sprinkle milk chocolate chips over the top. Let them melt for 2-3 minutes, then gently swirl the chocolate with a knife.
  7. Cool: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan for about 30 minutes. Slice into 48 pieces.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, swap the all-purpose flour for a gluten-free flour blend.
  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds.
  • For a richer flavor, drizzle extra caramel sauce over the finished bars.
