- For the Brownies:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.
- Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, and whisk until smooth.
- Sift in the cocoa powder, salt, and all-purpose flour. Fold the ingredients together with a spatula until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth out the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool completely.
- For the frosting: In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue to mix until the frosting is creamy and fluffy.
- Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled brownies.
- Slice into squares and serve.
Notes
- Do not overmix the brownie batter to keep them fudgy.
- Ensure the brownies are completely cool before adding the frosting to prevent it from melting.
