A rich and creamy chocolate mousse made with mascarpone cheese for a luxurious twist on the classic dessert. Perfect for elegant dinners or a quick yet decadent sweet fix.
Ingredients
200g dark chocolate (at least 60% cocoa), chopped
250g mascarpone cheese
1/2 cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream (chilled)
A pinch of salt
Optional toppings: whipped cream, chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, berries
Instructions
- Melt the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method), stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese with powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and creamy.
- Gently fold the cooled melted chocolate into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
- In another chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
- Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate-mascarpone mixture in batches, using a spatula and being careful not to deflate the mousse.
- Spoon or pipe the mousse into serving glasses or bowls.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
- Before serving, garnish with your choice of toppings like whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries.
Notes
- Ensure that the melted chocolate is not too hot when mixing with the mascarpone; it should be slightly cooled to avoid curdling.
- Chill the mousse for at least 2 hours for the best texture and taste.
- Adjust the sweetness to your taste by adding more or less powdered sugar.
