Description

A light and tangy layered dessert featuring the zesty flavor of key lime, whipped cream, and buttery graham cracker crumbs, perfect for spring and summer gatherings.

Ingredients

1 cup graham cracker crumbs

3 tablespoons melted butter

2 tablespoons sugar

1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

1/2 cup key lime juice (fresh or bottled)

1 tablespoon lime zest

1 cup heavy whipping cream

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fresh lime slices and zest for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. Mix until the texture resembles wet sand. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, key lime juice, and lime zest until smooth. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes.
  3. In a separate chilled bowl, beat heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  4. Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the key lime mixture until combined.
  5. To assemble the trifle, layer the ingredients in clear dessert glasses or a large trifle dish:
  6. Start with a spoonful of graham cracker mixture.
  7. Add a layer of the key lime filling.
  8. Top with a dollop of remaining whipped cream.
  9. Repeat the layers until the glass is full, finishing with whipped cream and a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs.
  10. Garnish with fresh lime zest or slices before serving.
  11. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Chill the dessert for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld and the texture to set.
  • Use fresh key lime juice for the best flavor, but bottled can work as well.
  • For a decorative touch, add a lime slice or zest on top before serving.
