Description
A light and tangy layered dessert featuring the zesty flavor of key lime, whipped cream, and buttery graham cracker crumbs, perfect for spring and summer gatherings.
Ingredients
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
3 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup key lime juice (fresh or bottled)
1 tablespoon lime zest
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Fresh lime slices and zest for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. Mix until the texture resembles wet sand. Set aside.
- In another bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, key lime juice, and lime zest until smooth. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes.
- In a separate chilled bowl, beat heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the key lime mixture until combined.
- To assemble the trifle, layer the ingredients in clear dessert glasses or a large trifle dish:
- Start with a spoonful of graham cracker mixture.
- Add a layer of the key lime filling.
- Top with a dollop of remaining whipped cream.
- Repeat the layers until the glass is full, finishing with whipped cream and a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs.
- Garnish with fresh lime zest or slices before serving.
- Chill for at least 1 hour before serving for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Chill the dessert for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld and the texture to set.
- Use fresh key lime juice for the best flavor, but bottled can work as well.
- For a decorative touch, add a lime slice or zest on top before serving.
